New stuff to try/mini sock pattern

I think the only thing I've never really tried in hand-knitting is lace knitting. Sure, I've done it on the machine, but that's relatively easy. Quite tempted by the charlotte's web shawl and the Koigu PPPM (is that what it's called?) I've seen online.
