Heel, toe, heel, toe

Started to knit a baby sock with the leftovers, with vague plans to auction for charity. Then remembered I'm supposed to be making a tension swatch. Oops!

"Interrupted" heel - produces a holey effect
Row 1: K36, turn
Row 2: P35, turn
Row 3: Repeat last two rows, turning before the last stitch each time, until sts in work is a third of original total
Next row: Work those sts, and work 1 from short row
Repeat until all sts back in work

Modified heel works better though -

Row 1: S1, P2tog, P to last 3 sts, P2tog, P1.
Row 2: K
Repeat last two rows until stitches reduced by two thirds (ie 18 sts is now 6 sts)
Next row: Pick up slipped stitch, P this then P to end
Next row: Pick up slipped stitch, K this then K to end
Repeat last two rows until all slipped stitches have been picked up
